Ashan is racing the Evo again? Has he fixed it after the rally crash or is this a new car?

Fuzzo : Don't worry machang. Just go on a crash diet for a week. You already have a weight advantage coz you don't have hair. Maximize it by loosing some weight. In these tiny 1000cc car, it might help :D

And good luck to all the competitors. I'll be missing it :( After looking forward to a Katu race since last year when I got my new lens, I have to go for a wedding on the 2nd :( Take lotsa pics guys!

Also, wonder what happened to Dilantha's Celica GT he used to race. I guess its tame when you run Porsches and Aston Martin V8s :D

Ashan is supposedly preparing the other Ashan's E3 conversion - the orange one that almost got snapped in half at the last Katu if you remember. Dilantha's Celica is rotting up at Hunas Falls and between the 3 series he runs, I doubt he has time for, or cares much about, racing in Sri Lanka. Good advice for Fuzzo. :)

Katu should be good and will be shown live on TV I think.

Quite enough. I've done all my shooting with the S2 IS so far. Its just got 32mm more reach, but with a 12mpx sensor, the reach should be more than enough. Have to swap to walk down pit lane tho.

cool....but why

Have to swap to walk down pit lane
???

dslr's are not welcome up close?

how about access levels for spectators wielding cams and hauling legs? if i'm going there will have to take the tpod... that get too much attention at times and get all those "official folks" all worked up :D

I meant have to swap lens :) 55 is too long for a close range work in the pits. Too crowded for long range work, ppl are always gonna walk across your shot unless your close. You don't need a pod, its usually very sunny at Katu, and anyway, if you want action shots, forget the tripod. Not enough freedom of movement.

Actually, I may be getting ahead of myself. You need a pit pass to get into pit lane :) normal tickets won't get you there. Tho there are ppl here who might be able to get a pass for you.

ahh thanks :) have the 18-55 for close work if needed... was looking at some cool panning shots online and most folks say it's best to use at least a monopod...

i've never shot moving cars so was thinking of being "safe" and not get too many blurrred out ones....

getting into pits would be cool but doubt i can find a "pass"...

was more interested in action shots...

A monopod, yes. Its actually the sole reason I bought mine :) But I find the cam and lens is light enough to hand hold and pan. Maybe I'll start using the monopod if I get that 500mm :) And Katu is much faster than Foxhill, so can use even higher shutter speeds and still get a motion blur :) that was around 1/100 or 1/125 if I remember. Have to look that up.

Hey ripper...I'll be going too.. both days actually.. probably gonna be my last motor sport event in SL for the year so figured i'll get full use of it....

So i'll cya there....

I shot at Katu once in early 2006... was still getting 'into' photography at the time and getting my hands used to a DSLR so the shots werent that spectacular, but u really dont need a tri/mono-pod.... it was bright enough :D

i'll cya boys there!

yeah,

Day one IMO is a bit more relaxed so easier to shoot... BUT there's no public entry, so you'll have to tag along with one of the drivers. But on the downside, the pictures wont be as interesting, as not all cars travel together (in a pack)...Day 2 is raceday, so WAYYYY more happening IMO.
