Led Voltmeter

Hi All,

This is my second DIY project in AL. its priti simple and low cost but very useful. just found on the net and tried myselt and it success. so i made two of this.

here is the description from the site i found .

"The nominal terminal voltage of a Lead Acid battery is 13.8 volts and that of a Tubular battery is 14.8 volts when fully charged. The LED voltmeter uses four Zener diodes to light the LEDs at the precise breakdown voltage of the Zener diodes. Usually the Zener diode requires 1.6 volts in excess than its prescribed value to reach the breakdown threshold level. When the battery holds 13.6 volts or more, all the Zener breakdown and all LEDs light up. When the battery is discharged below 10.6 volts, all the LEDs remain dark. So depending on the terminal voltage of the battery, LEDs light up one by one or turns off. "

Lets start the work.

Finally above 12V

It works Perfect and i made the second one with colors in other way .

Green --> Yellow --> Orange--> Red .

that I'm using as heat meter for my car.

My heat meter is not working properly and i checked one to fix top of the dashboard its about 1500. so i disconnect the wire from the heat censer and connect the wire to my negative (-) one in the second circuit.

For both of this it cost me only Rs.26 . :sport-smiley-003:

Try it and enjoy .

Nice project if you want to try it out some DIY yourself, but you're looking to get something to actually tell your your battery voltage, you can get something like this off ebay for a few dollars (including shipping).

I got a waterproof one for my motorcycle, but havent gotten around to hook it up yet..

Very True .

There are tons of gadgets in eBay for few $. and even if go to 1st cross street can get a hell of things and fully function basic digital multimeter will not cost 1000 bugs .

We pure Sri Lankans will always buy some from e bay or some ware . whiles Chinese are do something at there home and sell to us.

Nice to see someone trying out his hands at DIY and publishing them in the forum. Hope it would inspire others too. There are other things like electro-mechanical regulator that u can replace with electronics.

See, it all depends on what you want in the end.. if you want the joy of designing something or dabbling with electronics then mensoft's way is the way to go.

I dont know about my purity or impurity but to someone who just wants to know hos battery voltage this makes more practical sense. $2 on ebay is cheaper than spending on petrol+parking and my time to goto petah to buy the same thing for Rs.50.

Lets just hope the history teacher with his lecture on 50 years of experience and the "dark age" doesnt start off :P

well done mensoft !

I was thinking about triggering circuit for my rad fan (which is running full time now). now ur tip to apply for tempG gave me a hint.

YES - i know experts that's not the way it should be but i like DIY things. :smilie_liebe9:

rad fan ?

u mean radiator fan ? if so its very easy. you can get a heat censer around 350. and take the metal part where radiator hose connected to engine. drill

a thread hole that can fix heat censer. (for this you might need to go to a lathe shop) take the negative wire from that to the circuit.
