im looking to get new alloys (Bigger size) for my car.....

mazda 323 hatchback (Yom: 1992)

Current Size is following
Alloy: 13inch
Tyre: 175.70R 13
Mazda recommended alloy and tyre size is (Door Printed Striker )
175.70r13 82S
175.65r14 82h
185.60r14 82h
Can i use 16 or 17 inch alloy wheels?this will damage to car?
Reason for bigger wheel is ground clearance is very low.

Its not advisable to change the size of wheels and tyres as you wish outside of what the manufacturer has recommended as it could lead to various complications. Go to these links to get an explanation.

If you don't worry much about the speed and the mileage calculation,

1. Use same rim and go for tyre with large balloon size

2. buy 15' alloy and tire

Pros:

You get good ground clearance

Cons

larger the radius higher the tyre price

Hi

I have the same car and also had the same issue , would recommend to go maximum 15” as you may face issues with the tyre walls hitting the inside of the wheel arch.

I’ve put 185/65/15 which as solved the problem to a great extent and still got clearance to load and not touch the wheel arches

Planing to get 185/65/15..with 15 alloy...thanks ...lot....

like to get following design..

That's more than 3% of the present diameter which is not good.

Mmmm....Could please advise me with good one...please...why not good 3% diameter..?can you explain...

Did you check out this site giving your stock tyre size and the size you wanted to upgrade to???? That will will tell you what CAN happen. (not that it WILL happen)

What will happen if you fit a bullock cart size wheel to a car? Same thing.

2.5-3% is the maximum you can change the diameter. beyond that will be problematic to use the car.

Sorry for extending topic;

Please share your views on fixing nissan fb15 new shell with alloys, as I've seen many of them are kept with their stock plastic cover as it somewhat looks good than old fb15 stock wheel cover. What sort of design it will looks good? Expect views and photos from AL designers and fb15 owners.

Guys,

My previous tires were 215/65/16, and it was Falken and its out of stock at the moment. So they asked me to go for 215/70/16, I think its bit over 3% ryt.

So it's not good to put these tires....?

There may be some people who has come across this situation, Can someone please shed some light on this. :locomotive:

You won't be able to get extra ground clearance fitting larger rims because you will have to keep the overall diameter of your wheels the same as before. You do this by reducing the height of the side wall of the tyre as you go up rim sizes (the so called low profile tyres).

Is that OK to use different size tires in front and rear?

front(165/70/13)-goodyear

rear(185/70/13)-achilles

Seems OK considering you're just using a wider baloon size.

Just make sure the balloon size (165 or 185) on the front doesn't exceed the stock size cos it could result in the tyre rubbing against the wheel-well on full steering lock. Currently your bigger tyres are at the back, so should be all-right IMO.

You may use this Calculator to determine tire diameter and circumference. The two sizes you have provided are different in both circumference and diameter.

http://www.csgnetwork.com/tiresizescalc.html

However running them in tandem is your choice, any mechanical worries? May be not, handling may be impaired.

How is (165/70/13) and (185/70/13) different in circumference / diameter?

edit: I just used your calculatror and i'm seriously baffled on how it's possible. My grade 7 maths says that the diameter and circumference is purely based on radius which is (RimDiameter/2 + tyreHeight)

Correct on the Rim Diameter + Tire side wall Height = Outer Diameter of tire.

In this case aspect ratio + rim diameter is same but section width is 165 vs 185. My understanding is maintaining same aspect ratio and increasing section width may have a slight increase in overall diameter of the tire.

However I can confirm though I have used this calculator and have actually measured tires several times to confirm numbers and have not come across any discrepancies.

May be OP can help us by actually measuring the tire.
