Right Side Winker Mirror

abcjayasinghe

Question

I had kind of a bad vesak day yesterday, the road was full of traffic and one motorbiker smashed into my right side winker mirror and just escaped .!

The mirror (the glass) got shattered but, the mechanical and electrical parts working well. (power mirror and winker light are good).

Looking for a shop to buy a recon winker mirror preferably around kandy/Kurunegala. (Highly doubt that I would be able to find the mirror part alone without having to buy the entire unit. :sad-smiley-066: :sad-smiley-066: )

If you know such a place or happened to have a recon VitZ 2008 right side winker mirror please comment...! Highly appreciate an early response.

Thanks! in advance.

Thanks dude..! mine didn't have any tint.

highly appreciate if somebody could mention few places by name particularly in K'gala/Kandy.( guess it won't violate forum rules).

Wish to hear from anyone out there who recently replaced winker mirrors

Go to Darley Rd. They will cut a mirror (glass) and fix it. No need to replace the whole thing if the other stuff are working.

Thanx mate...! Would be a big relief if such thing is possible. Was on hunt for winker mirrors whole day but sellers were quoting unnecessarily high prices even for a single winker mirror unit. Surely will check that out....

What CNX suggested is possible and I believe it's the best solution. They'll cut you a mirror without any issue and will cost you only about rs500 to RS 750. Got mine done some time back for Rs500.

Thanks for you input, Trinity ! Guess they did a good job of it. Please let me know the place where you got it done or any other shop you know of in the Darley road where such things are undertaken.

There are many shops on Darley Rd and they can be easily identified because you will find mirrors on display on every available space of these shops. However, make sure you get a quality mirror. With some of the low quality ones it is difficult to see in the dark and you will feel the difference when you compare those with your other mirror. There is one closer to HNB side which somewhat a larger shop compared to others.

As rumesh also said, there are plenty of places where they have mirrors displayed. go to one of them and negotiate. I exactly cant remember the place which I got mine done but it was from panchi. About 50 meters towards maradana passing commercial bank. The buggers offered me an original mirror which they promised to remove from a full side mirror assembly for Rs.2000/-. I opted for cheaper one cuz I had only 1000 bucks with me at that time.

The local cut mirror is fine and you cant see any difference from the original one. Anyways I heard they will give up in time. Mine is still good after one & half years time.

Try US car parts in Dehiwala. One of my friends replaced an allion mirror brand new one was cheaper than recon from most other places.

If its possible to get the side mirror glass cut, is it possible to get those blueish mirrors that you get in Mercs(i dont see in the new ones but my uncle's W124 had them)

Thank you all. Your comments were very informative and highly appreciated.

Checked out at T_yota L_anka today. They're offering original mirror alone for Rs. 7000. Not firmly decided on anything yet. Will keep you posted.

I honestly think that getting a mirror cut is the best option here as it seems that you can get it done for one tenth of the price. I've had a mirror done for my car many years back from Darley Road and it was fine for a couple of years until an oncoming truck driver took the entire mirror assembly off which compelled me to replace the entire unit. :)

What I noticed with the Darley Road mirror is that the view is not as broad when compared with the mirror on the other side. The figures in the original mirror were a bit smaller than the cut mirror. This is after being ultra paranoid I guess, and it sure can't be noticed in day-to-day driving.

Machang did you see the full sized mirror used to cut out the smaller one? In my case they used a big mirror which you could cut two small ones if they were cut side by side. If the mirror was cut like that I believe it will not give you the correct reflection. Mine was cut from the center area of the donating mirror and it is almost good as the original one. This you have to ask the fellow who's doin the job cuz you are paying for the entire mirror anyway.

Abc if you are worried about local cut mirrors, I believe best option is to get a original mirror out of a side mirror assembly. As I said earlier you can get that done from panchikawatte without any prob. Most probably it'll cost you around 2k.

Anyways this again proves that Toyota parts are not that cheaper in spite the common belief in Sri Lanka about the brand.

That maybe it! The mirror they used was a square-ish one on which they could cut just one mirror.

Oops now only saw that you are looking for place around kandy. Sorry for keep suggesting places in colombo. Where have the regulars from kandy gone?

Found one place near general hospital. but, I was told their cut jobs are not that good. Finally decided on getting an original mirror. Planning to visit Panchi after the weekend.

I doubt that there are places that cut these mirrors in Kandy, did you check silva motors in Tennekumbura? I got the whole retract power mirror unit for 2500 for my AE91 few years back.

I tried going for the whole unit at first but, found out it was bit too expensive for the model. Everywhere, even at panchikawatta, they were quoting prices around Rs. 27,000 to 30,000 for a single winker mirror unit.
