Electronic Ignition Conversion

Dear All

I have an idea to convert electronics ignition conversion of my old Toyota EE90 car

it would be much appreciated if you can share your experience with me

In This case we have to installed magnetic bush to the distributor shaft... as shown in the following link

I guest this bush has fixed four magnetic pieces at every 90 degree...No idea where can we buy this kind of bush locally

I looked into this a while back for the Capri and turns out the previous owner of the engine already had this done so didn't have to buy it.

Accuspark makes a kit. I read some nice things about it on the Capri forums and doesn't cost a whole lot (even with shipping to SL) They have a store on ebay if you search ebay.co.uk

Do you know about trigger ring which comes with the kit? It's operation and theory?

Since ordinary ignition coli consume high current, does this unit can consume high power?

As far as I know, the device eliminates the need to adjust and clean the points only. You still need the coil.

I honestly don't remember how it works exactly. But I doubt it will lessen the draw of the ignition system. It will just make the upkeep of the dizzy easier.

That's spot on. If OP's intention is to reduce the power consumed by the ignition system then of course you must go for a CDI retrofit. This is because in a conventional ignition coil arrangement the average current consumed by the system is high at low revs and low at high revs. Of course the average current depends on dwell angel as well. But the dwell angle should be set to deliver sufficient spark energy to plugs even at the highest design RPM. In a CDI system on the other hand a fixed amount of energy is dumped into the plug each time regardless of the RPM. Hence the average power consumption is low at low revs. The system shown in the given link works by detecting the magnetic field using a hall-effect switch (there are units with sensor coils as well like the method used in Nissan FB12 for example). The hall effect switch detects the change in magnetic field (north/south pole change) and switch the existing ignition coil just like a contact point but without mechanical wear.
