Does The Vitz 2001 (U Grade) S' Engine Have A Timing Chain Or Belt ...

diago_x

Question

Hi,

I recently bought a Vitz 2001 ( U Grade ) and shes about to hit her 100k soon. So thought of changing the timing belt and I did check prices from spare parts shops. Almost every shop said vitz 2001 cars has a timing chain instead of timing belt. It's a bit relief to hear but I need to be confirmed.

Does anybody know about this ?

And do you know any reliable mechanic around Nugegoda, Ethul Kotte area to done this kind of work ?

Edit : And what are the other parts that need to be checked in 100k mileage?

Model : SCP 10

Engine : 1SZ-FE VVTI

Thanks in advance. :)

When you mention any thing regarding vehicle related matters, its important to mention model code (first part of chassis no). Then its easy to identify...

Any way, normally Toyota VVTi engines have no timing belt. Timing chain is for lifetime. Hope you have nothing to do...

One more thing..

Don't rely 100% on the mileage as 100k for 15 years means average 6600 km for an year. Can be possible only if this used as second car and imported to SL with very low millage. Any how, millage is not an issue if the car is in good condition.

There is nothing in particular to check at 100k km mileage if the car is in good condition and has a reliable maintenance history. However as gayanath has pointed out above you need not depend on the mileage alone. As for some of the common problems with 1SZ-FE, the heater line that goes to Idle Air Control Valve tend to become leaky at the T-joint where it is connected to cabin heater line. Also the OCV valve (VVTi controller) oil filter tend to get clogged up at this mileage. This can be easily cleaned during a tune up.

Hi thank you for the reply. Car is in good running condition I didn't notice any suspicious thing. But it has only last 2-3 years service history. Anyway i'm hoping to take it for a tune up.
