What Is A Good Vehicle For Rs 4M - Rs 4.3M

tmnuwan12_1

Question

Hi All,

I am having lot of troubles selecting a vehicle to buy. I have also asked a question regarding Toyota RAV4 but due to lack of vehicles post 2006 I am disappointed with it.

I know this type of questions are being asked and answered over and over again.

But due the ridiculous price & tax changes, vehicle market is changing in SL.

By the way current vehicle prices are going over the roof.

Anyway following are the main things I am looking for (my preference is SUV or a Car);

  1. High ground clearance
  2. Good second hand market
  3. Trouble free vehicle (relatively)
  4. Considerable fuel efficiency (not bothered too much if the vehicle does 8-9Km/L but less that this would be an issue)
  5. Comfort & good riding experience

If any one of the expert can shed some light on my case that would be super cool.

Thanks a lot in advance.

SUVs and "car" (I presume you are implying a sedan here)

1. What do you consider high ? A sedan will never have the high clearence of a SUV (well a small over like a RAV4)

2. No comment...the notion of buying a car based on resale value is foreign to me. I buy what I want and what I know I will enjoy...so someone else can shed light here

3. Most mainstream Japanese (and Euro) cars would be trouble free provided you take care of them and the previous owner/s have taken care of it. No car is completely trouble free. They all have slight niggles and inherent design, technical faults....

4. You were looking at a RAV4, CR-V, X-Trail and was expecting to get NOT less than 8 ??? You are in for a bit of a rude awakening if you get one of those. With Colombo driving, optimistically you can get about 7...but my guess is you would be getting 6-6.5 realistically. Unless you do a lot of highway driving in between

5. SUVs are not as comfy as sedans..but most are pretty decent. Also, "comfy" is quite relative....

At the end of the day...you seem to be wanting a Vezel :) I know we harp on Vezels a lot but at the end of the day the Vezel is a pretty decent all rounder (biggest issue with the Vezel so far have been the pretentious owners...who for some reason are very very quiet now both on and off the forum). However, I think a Vezel would be out of your price range.

You could look at a Rush (or Terios) but those a bit on the small side (if you want space). which leads you to something like a Lancer EX ? Those things have relatively higher ground clearance (at least visually seems like it). and I hear the Lancer is pretty decent to drive as well. Then there is the Allion/Premio, etc...

completely off topic but i noticed that there is another thread with almost the same writing style as this titled What Is A Good Vehicle For Rs 2.2M - Rs 2.5M

even the requirements are in the same order :D . is this the same person with a diff profile? did your budget change by any chance??? :) if not then the similarities in the posts are simply remarkable.

I think korean vehicles ticks all your boxes.

You can easyly buy a post 2006 sorrento/santafe at that price.

Now they are actually cheaper to maintain than their Japanese rivals

Hi CS. I assume you own a santafe (can remember seeing some of your old posts sometime back) A quick question about the santafe.

Even The agents claim that the santafe diesel version which came out in 2008-2009 era needs an engine overhaul at least once in 80,000 KM. is this statement true? Even couple of owners stated the same issue.

Go for a Rav4!its truly a awesome feeling when you behind that steering wheel! I drive my friend's jeep often and it's remarkable the way how it handles with that 2400 cc engine!I'm no expert in Rav 4 but if i can afford it i would go for it without any doubt!
