Effect Of Not Having Radiator Fan Cover(Shroud)

andunslg

Question

I have a Mitsubishi L200 2 wheel vehicle(252-xxxx). It's radiator fan cover(Shroud) is broken.

When I drive the vehicle, the heat level is normal. But when I park the vehicle with AC on, heat goes up very fast. When the AC is off, the rate of increase is low. I guess the rate has increased due to the above reason of not having the fan cover.

I tired to find a used one. Still not found. There are brand new ones in Unit#d Mot#rs. But the price is very high.

What is your idea of not having it ? Will it damage the engine?

Thanks

Andun

The shroud ensures maximum possible airflow through the radiator. When the vehicle is moving, the additional airflow would compensate for this but as you have experienced already, the vehicle would have trouble staying cool when stationary. Kind of surprised you can't find a used one. Have you checked around Panchi or Delkanda?

We built one out of steel for the Capri but that doesn't look half as neat as a factory shroud. But if you can't find one, that's an option.

Try Mahinda. Search for his number on the forum.

If he says that he's got the part, make sure you take your L200 (or the radiator & fan) so that you can pick a compatible one from the ones he has. Even ones from PO5 Delica etc. might fit.

You've seen a prob and identified the cause,.. Good, now lets fix it.

Look for any chop-shop selling a front/nose cut of a L200. it will most certainly have the radiator.Provided they sell you just the radiator,..I must stress upon the fact that no chop-shop will sell you just the shroud. So don't go looking for one..

While on the subject of Engine overhating while stationary, you might want have a look at the Cooling fan viscus coupling unit ,.commonly known as the fan-clutch.

Get the fan shroud sorted first and have a look at the cooling fan when the engine has warmed up to check if it runs without slipping

Good luck beating the heat! :sport-smiley-027:

Searched every where in Delkanda, Panchikawatta etc. Didn't found the exact part. But found a part with same dimensions but screw hols different in place. So purchased that and installed it after modifying the hols.

Unit#d Mot#rs has the part. But that is 30000. I got this part for 3500 :)
