Gearbox for Honda Fit GP5

Hi everybody!

One of my relation's gp5 (2013) which has done 17200km broken down when they were travelling from kandy to colombo.he said that the car has been sitting in their home for too long without running much.when we took it to a garage the mechanic said the whole gearbox need to be replaced.it is a hybrid version.he went to colombo to buy a new gearbox and he had found one for 125k,but only gets a 7 days warranty.for the price we pay the warranty is insufficient.i just want to know a place to buy the gearbox with at least of 3-6 months of warranty,or is it just the warranty  of 7 days that we get from everywhere???

 Cheers

IMO, no any used part seller will give you more than one week warranty. But try to negotiate for some more time at-least another week for assemble and use.

If you have time. could you elaborate more about the failure since it will help to others too for information.

What do you mean by broke down? Engine  stalled or gear box failed with warning? To fail a gear box  car should have driven alot (in Japan perhaps) or maintenance should be very bad like wrong ATF used. Do you guys absolutely sure about that gear box has failed indeed?

@hrm

 since DhoRK mentioned ODO is 17,200km, this couldn't be a maintenance issue, otherwise our makabas changed ATF unnecessarily with wrong one or mileage tampered by at least 100,000 km or more.

Therefore better to investigate further since we cannot assure his garage mechanic (even we don't know whether this is his first GP5 gear box or not) .

And one more important thing.....

After stalling on the road, how they took the car to garage?

If they tow the car without using a carrier or lifting front wheels, it could be a reason to fail the gearbox.

That's correct but mileage could be altered at any time right? I had seen cars in car sales that were driven less than 20K in odo but engine is so much worn out that they burn oil like hell.

Hondas are famous for their gearbox issues but this early and in this model.

Anyway I think you should take it to the agents st@@@d so you can confirm or reject the need for a gearbox change.

And I think you should check the prices of the brand new one as its still a new car and will be a peace of mind rather than struggling to get a waranty on a used one.

Sorry but seriously you guys need to do your research before answering questions.

OP don't bother changing Atf,  this car come with a 7 speed dual clutch transmission. The clutches are dry clutches (as with any eco variant). The gearbox issue is a common fault for this gearbox in hot countries;

 http://paultan.org/2014/02/11/honda-dct-recall/

As for the condition of the recon gearbox like a manual transmission the clutches on a dct wear out with use. I don't know if mechanics in this country are capable of inspecting a dct since these are the first generation of dct gearboxes on Jap cars. Did you try to contact someone like Guruge  (he works in Stafford and does his own work as well) who specialises in Hondas?

Note - I haven't contacted Guruge in a long time, i dont know if he is still doing this sort of work.

FYI the DCTF is ATF DW-1"

I'm extremely sorry...today i went to the garage and it was a GP1....sorry...i was in colombo during the last week and it was my father who had help him to take the car to the garage.i checked the car a bit and it was just as a new one..my father had mistaken it as a GP5.anyway the garage owner said that the car is a limited edition one so it has a different gearbox.he said the problem is with the clutch.he said the gearbox is different from other fit's.when i checked a little(because the car was covered with a cloth so i cannot fully open the door) it had cruise control and a totally different original navigation unit.seemed to me as a limited edition.and the plates are CAN .

The GP1 comes with a CVT box that you can find in the insight, shuttle, crz and even the older civic hybrids. Improperly maintained CVT's will pack up but not at such a low milage as 17,000

I haven't heard of any different gearbox in GP1 than the regular cvt box. Mine is not a limited edition and it has cruise control . The so called limited edition ones were probably the ones that came with paddle shifters but I doubt if the gearbox is any different on them.
