What is the oil recommended in  your manual? No matter what the basses in service stations say, always only use the oil with the viscosity specified in the service manual.

A  controversial sub,

engine oils' have many viscosities as there are  openions.

Take into account  .the recommend oil for our operating conditions.  :angry-smiley-044:

TT.

@Jbkumara if your user manual specifies 10W30 is the recommended viscosity, then that's the one that gives optimal performance. But the important point to note is you may need a higher viscosity oil as the engine becomes older. How many kilometers has your van done (if you don't know the genuine number, make a guess).

The only 'difference' in opinion about engine oils we had in this forum was from a person who had confused engineering with economics and patriotism. However, even his opinion did not address viscosity but frequency of oil change.,

As ramishka and crosswind have said stick to the manufacturer recommended viscosity. Unless you feel that the engine is burning oil and the oil level is dropping, in which case use a slightly higher viscosity oil.
